Nature comes in all sizes

Nature comes in all sizes...

For thousands of years, thousands of indigenous communities around the world have been living in harmony with nature. Their livelihoods are intricately linked to their environment and the local natural resources. As such they have acquired knowledge from their ancestors to conserve their forests and farmlands and live a sustainable lifestyle. But we, the modern civilization, seem to have come to believe that we can control nature to satisfy our greed. We have come to believe that we have the power to control the forces of nature by damming rivers, industrialization, and genetically modifying life forms. But within a century, we now face large scale pollution and global warming, and our very existence seems to be at stake, and we still are reluctant to change our ways!

Nexus

Nexus

This is how complex, deep, and strong the nexus between the governments and the corporations is in the world today. World Bank, IMF, and WTO have been set up by the developed countries to strip the poor and developing countries of their basic economic sovreignity in the name of globalization and free trade. Developed countries give huge subsidies to their corporate farming companies, which allow the corporations to sell their produce for cheaper prices in the global market. Developing countries are forced to open their markets so that the local companies can buy their produce for cheaper prices thereby driving the poor local farmers out of business. The politicians and corporations in developing countries are equally complicit in this act, but even if some of them are relatively honest or intend to protect their citizens, they are pressured into accepting the free trade economic model. This is what the third world countries are being offered in the name of development!
